The Handwritten Index

An index is not a summary and not a catalog. It is the map I drew when I forgot where I had already passed.

There are only three fields for each entry: title, first read date, and one line that matters later.

Nothing in this room is ever really archived. Everything is either re-read or returned.

That return is what turns simple notes into usable memory.
